Thanks for joining us on WhatcomWorkflow, Lindsey! How long have you been doing the Marketing thing for Scratch and Peck?
What’s a unique word or phrase that describes how you work?
Tell us about your desktop computer.
PC with no bells or whistles (I don’t want it to get a big head, you know.)
What software applications do you use to get your work done and why?
InDesign and Photoshop for ads and promo pieces. Microsoft Word for blog articles, standard of procedure documents, and times when we simply need words with no pictures.
What mobile phone and/or tablet do you own?
The fact that I even have a smart phone is astounding (I’m prefer to stay low tech). I have an Android LG. Couldn’t even tell you what model or anything. I can text, call and check email. That’s about all I need my phone to do.
What apps on your phone can’t you live without?
I have the Yahoo app. Yes, I still have a Yahoo account. See? I haven’t even graduated to Gmail.
Pop quiz: Describe your dream workspace and technology. No budget limitations. Sky is the limit!
Bright, clean, with lots of furniture from Smith & Vallee in Edison. Technology-wise, I pretty much just need a computer, phone and printer. I’m more concerned about what type of coffee pot is in the office.
Where is your favorite place to get work done in Whatcom County?
I love Union Coffee on State Street. Great for people watching and I love the space!
What are some struggles you currently face with your technology?
It trying to do more than I need it to be doing. No, Microsoft, I don’t want Cortana to be my office mate!
What artists do you listen to while working, and what music source do you use?
I use Spotify mostly, and music is all over the board. Hip hop, indie, bad top 40 pop. It depends on so many things. Am I sleepy? Is it sunny or raining? Is it Friday or Monday? Outside factors often dictate my soundtrack.
What is your best time-saving shortcut or life hack?
Be a nerd. Nerds get things done.
Besides your phone and computer, what else (analog or digital) can’t you live without?
A view of the bay. Oh, and ice cream.
So where is your favorite place to get a view of the Bay?
The floating dock off of Taylor Dock. On early mornings before the late risers start stirring, I love sitting on that dock, being so close to the water and feeling the waves under me. Nothing beats that!
Ice cream, huh? There are a lot of places to get ice cream around Whatcom County. What’s your go-to location?
I unapologetically love Dairy Queen. My Pennsylvania upbringing runs deep when it comes to Blizzards. They’re nostalgic happiness. Fret not, I do love me some Mallard. They make an almond butter ice cream that makes my taste buds sing like angels.
So, in your opinion, what does Whatcom County need more of?
Really good delis. Like, New York-pastrami-piled-so-high-you-can’t-see-across-the-table-style delis.
What books or magazines are you currently reading?
Cooking Light, Runner’s World. I’m currently reading ‘A Doubter’s Almanac‘ by Ethan Cain.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Learn how to negotiate. Before being told that, I just accepted what I was given and would feel resentful because I wasn’t receiving what I believed I deserved. Now, even if I don’t get exactly what I want, getting just a little bit closer to the goal feels world’s better than feeling like I settled.
